glides; intrusive r in BrE; glottal stop

front vowels + unstressed vowel > palatal glide y
back vowels + unstressed vowel > labio-velar glide w

some mice vs some ice: in the latter ?aIs


A very convenient use of the glottal stop is to seperate successive vowels between which no natural glide develops to bridge the hiatus, as in Anna asks.(p.127, Applied phonetics, Claude Merton Wise)


In BrE, schwa + vowel > intrusive or excrescent r
