Went to stanford green stacks to look for U of Hawaii working papers in linguistics (UHWPL) 3.2.105-114. Unfortunately, Stanford didn't carry 3.2, but they got 3.1, 3.3-3.9. While skimming thru UHWPL 1.x, 2.x, 3.x for Charles-James Bailey writings, I found his treatment of Southern states Phonetics interesting. And his note on treating obstruents as vowels is a good:for instance, in acts and copts, the obstruent /t/ functions as a vowel, thereby lengtehning the prior consonant /k/ and /p/
